Fashion and Sports Influencers Support Research for Genetic Disorder

Nautica President Karen Murray hosts Marfan Foundation Gala on April 16

The Marfan Foundation is set to honor their 2015 Hero with a Heart Award winners at the 15th Heartworks Gala on April 16. The awards this year will honor Isaiah Austin, the former Baylor University basketball star, as well as Carolyn Levering, Emeritus CEO of the Marfan Foundation.

The Gala will unite the fashion industry and the sports world to bring awareness to Marfan syndrome, a life-threatening genetic disorder of the body's connective tissue. The event will be hosted by President of Nautica, Karen Murray, and has support from key influencers like Michael Bloomberg and members of the NBA including Walt Clyde Frazier and NY Knicks Jason Smith, Cleanthony Early, and Langstong Galloway.

The Marfan Foundation provides education, patient support, and research to aid those who have Marfan syndrome and related disorders.

According to a press release, “Heartworks has raised more than $10 million for the Foundation to date. The proceeds from the event are earmarked for the Foundation’s programs and services in the areas of education, patient support, and research.”
