Fashion Tips From James Franco
The actor reveals how he gets his signature style
Actor. Director. Author. Student. He wears a lot of different hats yet he always looks good. Here's how he does it—and how you can too.
Once you find a pair of jeans or tee with a perfect fit, buy a variety of washes and colors. "I'm in class most days, but I do have a lot of vintage T-shirts," Franco says. Keeping a supply on hand lets you easily vary your look, rather than grabbing the same wrinkled tee off the floor every morning.
"I'm fairly low maintenance," Franco says. Limit yourself to four or five essential grooming products, especially when it comes to your hair—where most guys are prone to overdo it. Think soft and touchable—products like AXE Messy Look Paste hold hair without that hard, sticky glare.
Sweats won't cut it forever. Invest in a suit. As the face of Gucci fragrances, Franco has the ultimate hookup: "My suit collection has definitely improved over the years," he says. The rest of us can go with brands like H&M and J.Crew, both of which offer modern-cut suits for frat-boy budgets.
Even though slim jeans are everywhere, you don't have to wear them. Stick with what you're most comfortable in. "I go for more of a classic look," Franco says. "A '50s kind of thing: jeans, T-shirts, sweaters."
