My Mustache Fights Cancer!
From 10/5-11/29, the upper lip of this MF'er takes on a killer in Mustaches vs. Cancer 2009!
As the web producer at Men's Fitness, I'm asked to do many varied tasks. Publish articles, send newsletters, find and post images of fit, beautiful women (yes that's me...you're welcome), and—most recently—fight cancer.
At a recent blogger meetup in NYC, I was asked by Brian Childs of Asylum.com to take part in something called Mustaches vs. Cancer. The basic idea behind it was to get a bunch of men to grow mustaches for eight weeks. During that time of charitable humiliation, these men try to get sympathetic friends, loved ones, and strangers to donate money in their name toward the fight against cancer.
Caught up in an air of jovial camaraderie, I said, "Why of course I would," and now I must suffer the indignities (or perhaps benefits) of looking like a 70's porn star for a couple of months. I had considered a workaround by growing a full beard or a goatee. However according to the rules (yes there are rules) that was not acceptable. No worries, this is all for a good cause.
Our beneficiary is the Pediatric Department of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in NYC. MSKCC treats more pediatric and young adult cancer patients than any other institution in the world. Learn more about their efforts in pediatric cancer care and about the institution at mskcc.org.
Too keep everyone honest, we've all been asked to upload at least one photo at the beginning of each week to the Mustaches vs. Cancer website. I will also be blogging throughout this ordeal on my personal site at stephenbailey.com/mustache. You can follow me on Twitter as well to keep up on my progress.
