BlogsQuick Tip: Sniff Rosemary to Improve Brain Function
Scientists find the scent of rosemary makes people work faster.
Need a mid-day pick-me-up? New research has found that the scent of rosemary makes people more efficient and accurate.
People have long believed that the herb has positive effects on the mind and body, but no one has put it's efficacy to the test until now. Scientists at Northumbria University's Brain Performance and Nutrition Research Centre had 20 volunteers perform a series of tasks. They were each exposed to different levels of rosemary.
They found that those who had higher levels of 1,8-cineole (the main chemical in rosemary) performed their work more quickly and more accurately. Although, ironically, the chemical had no effect on alertness or attention.
Although the research is in its early stages, it's an interesting finding. And, hey, sniffing some rosemary couldn't hurt.
