The Wii U Finally Arrives [REVIEW]
Nintendo launches its next generation console, and the future of gaming looks brighter than ever.
Wii U Launch Games
If you’re lucky enough to get your hands on a Wii U, get your hand on these games, too
New Super Mario Bros. U
What else can be said about Mario? He is Nintendo’s ace-in-the-hole, and a new Mario title is de rigueur with a new system release. In New Super Mario Bros. U, everyone’s favorite Italian plumber makes a stunning transition to HD, and his huge new side scrolling adventure proves that the 2D platformer is alive and well—at least in the hands of Nintendo.
Ninja Gaiden 3
If you didn’t experience this blood-soaked brawler when it released for Xbox 360 and PS3 earlier this year, hop to. The frenetic pace, over-the-top action, and gorgeous visuals are a perfect mask for the genre’s repetitive nature. It takes a minute for anyone to learn, but the series’ notorious difficulty is intact; only dedicated players will master this one.
Write out whatever comes to your mind using the stylus on the Wii U’s game pad, then watch it come to life on the screen. You’ll need to call upon all of your creative faculties to solve the game’s myriad puzzles, and you’ll be positively shocked by the number of different things you can do. It’s almost like an interactive version of Mad Libs—without the dirty words. You’ll have to use the game pad to play this title; your TV screen will just be a bigger version of what’s going on in your hands, though it will allow anyone else in the room to shout suggestions.
Ubisoft took the term survival horror quite literally with ZombiU, which tracks how long you can keep your character alive to quantify your score. When you die, you really die, and you’ll have pick up where you left off with a brand new character. Ammo is always in short supply, so be ready to fight through the streets of London using only a cricket bat. Survival mode adds even more tension by providing a true one-and-done experience; die and you’ll have to start over from the beginning.
