The Olympics are over. And frankly, after four years of buildup, it’s a total buzz kill when both competition weeks zip by so fast. But, like Monte Python’s Eric Idle belted out at London’s closing ceremony, we should always look on the bright side of life. Here’s the good news: you can beat post-Olympic depression by flipping from NBC to the Discovery Channel. It’s Shark Week. A Super Bowl aside, this is one of our favorite events of the year.
In honor of its 25th anniversary (first aired on July 17, 1988), Discovery Channel jam-packed this week full of extreme cage diving footage, hair-raising shark attack stories, MythBusters special episodes, and shark-101 info on bites, great whites, and the weirdest behavior traits—shark fights included—of the ocean’s largest fish.
From digitally resurrecting an extinct shark that could’ve chomped a T-Rex in two, to recounting a WWII plane crash when two Americans battled sharks from a raft for 47days before rescue, Shark Week's lineup will keep you on the edge of your seat, just like the Olympics did.
