10 Fittest U.S. Soccer Players
Maurice Edu, Midfielder
Club Team: Stoke City (England)
6’ 0’’ | 170 lbs
Maurice Edu, 26, from California, started his career in Major League Soccer as 2007 first draft pick in the MLS SuperDraft for Toronto FC. He nailed his season there and won the MLS Rookie of the Year award, which grabbed the national team’s attention. Edu started for the U.S. against Switzerland in 2007 but didn’t play often until Klinsmann started him in five of the coach’s first seven matches. Edu’s not afraid to tackle hard, a fearless trait that makes him valuable for Team USA. Edu (2008 Olympic team captain) took the U.S. Olympic Team through qualifying rounds and three games in Beijing, honing his leadership skills and giving him an extended taste of full-force international competition. He signed into the English Premier League a few weeks ago playing for Stoke City.
