Club Team: Real Salt Lake (USA)
5’ 10’’ | 165 lbs
Don’t let his signature dreadlocks fool you into thinking he fits the lazy hippie stereotype. Maryland native Kyle Beckerman, 30, plays defensive midfielder with a mature sense of urgency gained from his years playing on the U-17 and U-23 national squads. He started in the national team programs at age 15 and debuted on the senior men’s team in 2007, where he was earning and losing a spot on the roster until 2011 when coach Jurgen Klinsmann harnessed his energy and gave him a starting spot. He’s a captain for Real Salt Lake, and though it took him time to find his feet on the U.S. team, his leadership qualities makes him the defensive anchor for the U.S. midfield now.
In this special-edition of The Fit 5, two mixed martial artists, Johny Hendricks and Jamie Varner give us an inside look into living life as a pro fighter.
