When and Where: May 2-4 at Tom Lee Park in Memphis, Tennessee
Headliners: Kid Rock; Alabama Shakes; Snoop Lion
Best of the A-List: Joan Jett and the Blackhearts; Dropkick Murphys; Jason Isbell
Ins and Outs: If “Beale Street” sounds familiar, that’s because it got a major name-check in Marc Cohn’s 1991 Elvis-worshipping classic, “Walking in Memphis.” It doesn’t hurt that Memphis is also the birthplace of rock-and-roll and the blues, and the so-called “BBQ Capital of the World.” The Beale Street Music Festival gets its name from its proximity to the historic, blues-club-lined street -- but the festival itself is actually held in nearby Tom Lee Park on the Mississippi River waterfront. One of the greatest aspects of the BSMF is that you get some of the top names in every single music genre: pop, punk, Americana, rap, metal, and more. It’s like the festival circuit’s United Nations.
