Cunning, witty, debonair, perfectly British, and, of course, devilishly handsome—Roger Moore was the quintessential James Bond.

Sadly, the legendary Bond actor, who was also well-known for his roles in television shows like The Saint and The Persuaders, passed away at the age of 89 on May 23 in Switzerland.

Moore, who was the oldest and longest-running Bond ever hired for films in the canon (he was 46 when he first took on the role), brought a signature tongue-in-cheek style of humor to the character that his predecessor—Sean Connery—had not had.

In honor of the late Sir Roger George Moore, and in honor of his seven iconic 007 films, here are seven of the best vintage photos of the British actor.
