Maybe Joel Kinnaman isn’t a name you recognize at first glance—yet. The young actor hasn’t even been living in the country very long (he moved to the States from Sweden in 2009), but judging from his impressive résumé, hot girlfriend, and overall star-quality, Kinnaman is about to become a household name. In fact, we’re a little jealous—this man is living the life. Here are a few reasons we’d trade places with him in a heartbeat. 7 Reasons Mark Wahlberg is the Man>>>
1. He's RoboCop
Do we really need to expand on this? He got to play RoboCop in the remake of the 1987 film, which hits theaters Feb. 12. It’s a must-see, not to mention the costume is pretty cool.
Already a successful actor in Sweden, Kinnaman didn’t need Hollywood—but he gave it a shot anyway and succeeded here, too. His most notable roles were in Easy Money and the Johan Falk series, both of which received nominations for Sweden’s prestigious Guldbagge Awards.
While the role was eventually given to Chris Hemsworth, Joel Kinnaman was one of the top contenders for the lead role in the Thor movies. He originally auditioned by sending in a video filmed with his friend’s camera phone—that’s how good he was.
In order to get away from a bad group of friends and start anew, Kinnaman decided to spend some time on the West Coast of the United States during high school. Unfortunately, he ended up in Del Valle, TX—not L.A.—with a weird host family. But to have that experience at such a young age sounds awesome regardless.
Denzel, Ryan Reynolds, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy—and that’s only from three movies. He’s worked with some of Hollywood’s biggest stars and was able to hold his own. No doubt he’ll be listed among them sometime soon.
Boxing, surfing, training with Sweden’s Special Forces, and weightlifting might sound a bit intense to some, but it’s all in a day’s work for Kinnaman. If that’s how he trained for his role in RoboCop, in which most of his body is covered throughout the movie, we can’t wait to hear about his training for the next one.
