Bana’s first major U.S. role came in the Ridley Scott-directed military drama Black Hawk Down, playing Norm "Hoot" Gibson. Bana starred alongside an all-star cast, including pre-Game of Thrones Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Josh Hartnett, Ewan McGregor, William Fichtner, Jason Isaacs, Tom Hardy, Sam Shepard, and Orlando Bloom. Bana has some key scenes with Hartnett, including a memorable moment when he says to Hartnett’s character while hiding out from enemy fire: “It’s just war.” Scott was so impressed with Bana’s performance in Chopper that the actor did not need to audition for the role. After gaining weight for Chopper, Bana went through an intense training program to lose weight and add muscle. Bana and the other actors also worked with Delta Force on firearms training and learning how to realistically operate in a battle scenario. Here's a look at Bana training in a video with military consultants, and a photo working with firearms alongside Fichtner.
