The First Sneak Peek of 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' Is Here, and It Looks Fun as Hell

Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Groot (Vin Diesel), Drax (Dave Bautista), and co. return for the summer's highly anticipated sequel to Marvel's surprise 2014 hit.

The unlikeliest band of superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is back for a few laughs—and it looks like they're just in time.

Yes: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is crash-landing into movie theaters (and our hearts) this spring, with Marvel's iconic brand of wink-wink humor, blue-skinned superheroes, and talking raccoons uniting once again for more interspace travel and awkward hugs. And now, thanks to a new sneak peek, we've got our first look at their reprise.

There will be plenty of adventure (and Blue Swede) in Vol. 2, but we really only get one plot detail: Star-Lord is getting some hints from his buddy Drax (Dave Bautista) that he should find himself a spacefaring superlady besides Gamora. (It seems his "pelvic sorcery" had no effect on Zoe Saldana's green-skinned assassin, after all.)

"There are two types of people in the universe," Drax growls in the cabin of the Milano, the team's ship. "Those who dance, and those who do not."

"I get it," Star-Lord says. "I'm a dancer, and Gamora is not."

"You just need to find a woman who is pathetic," Drax says. "Like you."

We also get a few key glimpses of familiar characters, like a partially human-skinned Nebula (Karen Gillan, who will be her usual gorgeous redheaded self in Jumanji). The blue-skinned Centaurian Yondu (Michael Rooker)—aka the guy with whistle-controlled arrows and the red mohawk—has joined the team, or at least joined up with Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper) on a mission. And in a shot sure to appease the hardcore fans of the franchise, we see a certain Vin Diesel-voiced king of Planet X, dressed up in a miniaturized red leather jacket:

As for any missing faces—namely Mantis, Pom Klementieff's telekinetic martial artist teased in the early concept art—Gunn hints that she'll be appearing soon. (Remember, this is only the sneak peek of the teaser).

“I can’t wait for you all to see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, with Gamora, Nebula, and Mantis in action, where we not only pass the Bechdel test, but run over it and back up over it again and again in an 18-wheeler truck, and where their stories and the men’s stories don’t come at the expense of each other, but are interwoven in a way to strengthen and optimize all of them," Gunn said last week in a Facebook post.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, directed by James Gunn and starring Pratt, Bautista, Saldana, Cooper, Diesel, Gillan, and Klementieff is set to hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
