Following in the footsteps of the highly successful—and literally internet-breaking—new Netflix series Luke Cage, Marvel is ready to bring another hero to the screen in Iron Fist. The series will premiere on March 17, 2017, and Netflix heralded the announcement on Tuesday with a mysterious new teaser and a photo showing main character Danny Rand (Finn Jones) beating down some bad guys on the streets of NYC:

The series follows Rand as he returns to New York City after being presumed dead for 15 years. During that time, he's become a kung-fu master and gained control of the mythical “power of the Iron Fist.” In the comic book originals, Iron Fist and Luke Cage have a long-standing partnership as the “Heroes for Hire,” and there’s a chance Marvel will team them up down the line.

The character is Marvel's fourth to get his own Netflix series Luke Cage—starring Mike Colter, who spoke to Men’s Fitness about playing the badass, bulletproof heroDaredevil, and Jessica Jones. Those shows will lead into The Defenders, an Avengers-like team-up of the street-level Marvel heroes.

Netflix debuted the first footage of Iron Fist at San Diego Comic-Con, showing Rand kicking down walls and returning to NYC:

The studio is also reportedly working on a spinoff series starring Jon Bernthal as the iconic vigilante The Punisher, who made his debut in the second season of Daredevil and quickly became a fan favorite.

Iron Fist will be released on March 17, 2016.
