Batman is about to meet his match.
Former Men’s Fitness cover star Joe Manganiello is set to portray the villainous assassin Deathstroke in the upcoming standalone Batman film, DC Entertainment chief Geoff Johns revealed in an interview with The Wall Street Journal.
The supremely jacked Manganiello will battle against Ben Affleck’s “Dark Knight" in Gotham, although Johns would not say whether Manganiello could make an appearance in Justice League, which is currently filming. If Manganiello makes a cameo in that film, he (at least in theory) could go head-to-head with fellow Men's Fitness cover star Henry Cavill's Superman.
Affleck sent the fan-boys into a frenzy earlier this summer after tweeting out a video showing the menacing Deathstroke—decked out in his signature helmet, swords, and ferocious armor—stomping towards the camera, but offered no hints about when the character would appear:

Affleck is directing the standalone Batman film and wrote the script alongside Johns—and now the film has its primary villain. Deathstroke, an expert assassin with heightened strength, made his comics debut in 1980 and over the years he has played villainous foil to a number of superheroes, including Batman.
Justice League, directed by Zack Snyder and starring Affleck, Jason Momoa, Gal Gadot, Ray Fisher, and Ezra Miller as the titular team, hits theaters on Nov. 10, 2017. The standalone Batman film doesn’t yet have an official release date.
