Your Fast and Furious Guide To The Fast and Furious Franchise

Five films worth of testosterone-laced, adrenaline-packed action—and sometimes senseless non-action—all distilled into a roughly five-minute, memory-refreshing rundown. (You’re welcome.)

Is it a sequel? Yes, but here's where the series officially departs from its streetracing and car-culture roots, firmly entering heist movie territory.

Buckle up! You’re going to: Brazil

Who’s out: Letty (Rodriguez)

Who’s back: Toretto (Diesel); O’Connor (Paul Walker); Mia (Brewster); Roman (Tyrese); Tej (Ludacris); Gisele (Gadot); Han (Kang); Vince (Schwarze); Director Justin Lin

Who’s new—and noteworthy? Elena Neves (Elsa Pataky); Luke Hobbs (Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson); Hernan Reyes (Joaquim del Almeida)

The 10-second sypnosis: The gang (including Vince, who’s back from the original) have fled to Rio de Janiero. Very simply put, they’re hoping to haul cash from Reyes, a corrupt businessman, and use it to start a new life. In the meantime, though, DSS agent Hobbs and a local officer named Elena Neves nab part of the gang—before the gang saves them from Reyes’ men. In return, Hobbs gives them a 24-hour head start to escape the law.

Please note (for continuity’s sake): Vince dies; Elena and Dom become a thing, eventually joining the other happy couple— Brian and a very pregnant Mia—safe on a tropical beach somewhere; and Letty might still be alive, according to a post-credits teaser. Whoa!

Critics said: “Maybe the first great film of the post-human era.” (Time) “Damn it, it works.” (Rolling Stone) “A knucklehead Ocean’s 11.” (New York Post)
