The Transformers are back—and they're at war with humans once again in the first teaser trailer for Transformers: The Last Knight.
The fifth installment of the film franchise stars a jacked Mark Wahlberg, who is reprising is role as Cade Yaeger from the previous film Age of Extinction, alongside a slew of other familiar faces reprising their roles, including Josh Duhamel as William Lennox and Tyrese Gibson as Robert Epps.
In The Last Knight—Michael Bay's last film in the robot smash-'em-up franchise—the Transformers universe expands far beyond the usual battles around Earth. Anthony Hopkins (who, on a break from being the evil mastermind behind Westworld, both stars in the film and narrates the trailer) explains that the Transformers have been coming to Earth for hundreds of years, as the trailer flashes from the medieval ages to Nazi Germany.
Fast forward to the modern era, and the Transformers are waging war against the humans in an epic battle between "flesh" and "metal." Exactly how these multiple time periods are going to fit into the plot of The Last Knight is still a mystery, but we know this much: the stunning graphics, robot-on-robot fight scenes, and giant explosions that we have come to love and expect from Michael Bay (and shot using ultra-high-end Alexis 3-D IMAX cameras) are a veritable certiainty.
Oh, and the fact that Optimus Prime seems to have gone completely rogue and appears to be fighting alongside the forces of evil. There's that, too.
