After nine long, exhausting, expensive years, the war in Iraq officially ended today when soldiers held a flag lowering ceremony in Baghdad. "After a lot of blood spilled by Iraqis and Americans, the mission of an Iraq that could govern and secure itself has become real," Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said at the ceremony.
By the end of the year, the 4,000 American men and women still stationed in Iraq will return home.
