A smart-phone fitness app that serves as your own personal trainer and health monitor.

There are thousands of fitness apps on the market, but every now and then you come across one that stands out. Macaw, a free app available for iPhones and Androids is more of a health hub to better yourself than your typical app.

Answer some basic questions and Macaw assesses your health. From there, you have the ability to track every aspect of your personal fitness whether it's your physical activity, what you eat, or syncing it to wireless scales, glucose meters and pedometers to track your progress. Keep your New Year's resolutions in check by choosing from a list of activities that you complete, log in and receive points for doing them, so if you're ever at a loss for what exercises you can do to get your daily quota in, they've got a list of suggestions ready for you.

Looking for more encouragement to get moving? A GPS feature even allows you to see how many calories you’ll burn traveling from your house to whereever your end destination may be.

Considering the app comes from U.S. Preventive Medicine, its user experience and comprehensiveness is spot on. For example, based on your age, this app will recommend what preventive screenings you should be requesting from your doctor. You also have the option to become a member of The Preventative Plan, which comes with hundreds of dollars worth of blood tests, health evaluations and a personalized plan.

For ease of use and the ability to potentially help a generation get back in shape, Macaw is a bargain at the very low price of free. We highly recommend you give it a shot.
