10 Fittest U.S. Soccer Players

Unlike stronger international teams, the U.S. National Men’s Soccer Team can’t rely solely on skill or stand-out individual players to score a spot at the World Cup 2014. Our real weapon? Fitness. Here’s the top 10 guys that can play with intensity down

Clint Dempsey, Midfielder

Club Team: Tottenham Hotspur (England)

6’ 1’’ | 170 lbs

Clint Dempsey, 29, from Texas, has been a wild card since he secured a spot on the senior national team in 2004. His unpredictability makes him a dangerous midfielder for defending opponents. With one-on-one challenges, Dempsey’s attacks aren’t of a consistent style, making him extremely difficult for opposing players to read and react to. He brings an exciting threat to the field that feeds energy into the U.S. National Team’s forward lineup. Dempsey also set a goal-scoring record for an American player in the English Premier League, racking up the points for Fulham before he moved on to Tottenham Hotspurs in early September.
