We’re not going to lie: Rolling out of bed and into work this morning felt about as good as watching Baltimore's energy temporarily tank post-power outage. But we rallied when we learned that there’s a petition on the White House’s We the People page to make the Monday after the Super Bowl a national holiday.
Josh Moore, who owns the fantasy football site 4for4.com, started the petition and argues that the day off would create camaraderie among the more than 100 million Americans who tune into the game and boost productivity at work the rest of the week.
Sure, Moore’s idea is far-fetched—people petition the White House for weird stuff, like Texas to secede from the Union, all the time. But his idea could actually have a valid point—Super Bowl Monday might keep drunk drivers off the roads if people weren’t rushing to get home from parties and cram in a few hours of sleep before waking up for work the next day.
So far, the petition has over 14,000 signatures, and if it gets more than 100,000 John Hancocks by February 23, the issue will warrant an official response from the Obama administration. Until then, here are some ways to make today feel a little less brutal, whether you’re rocking a hangover or some hardcore heartburn:
