UFC 130 Predictions

Quinton Jackson vs. Matt Hamill Quinton "Rampage" Jackson always seems to be on the brink of throwing his career away. First there was the manic, energy drink-induced reckless driving spree that led to his arrest in 2008. Then there was a false retirement and then he started acting like Mr. T. Still, no matter what missteps the former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion takes, he seems to always be able to get back on the right track in MMA. A recent victory over Lyoto Machida proved Jackson could still bang, but is his heart in it anymore? The man hasn’t been his vicious self since at least 2008 when he knocked Wanderlei Silva’s off. On Saturday, he’s going up against a fighter that is on a serious streak and looking to finally break through to title contention in Matt Hamill. A killer wrestler who is beginning to develop on his feet, The Hammer can win this one if he avoids Rampage’s standup and dominates him on the ground. Prediction: Matt Hamill Frank Mir vs. Roy Nelson Thanks to his doughy frame, cocky attitude and overly aggressive mullet, Roy Nelson has earned a lot of detractors during his time in UFC. But just because Big Country doesn’t fit the typical heavyweight mold of a Mirko Cro Cop doesn’t mean he’s not a serious problem. His victory on the 10th season of “The Ultimate Fighter” and his spirited 2010 performance against Junior Dos Santos already proved he belongs at the top. Still, the UFC newcomer is stepping into the cage with a guy who has been dominating fights since the days when Tank Abbott was considered a legitimate challenger. Incredibly focused since his brutal 2009 beating at the hands of Brock Lesnar, Frank Mir should be able to use his veteran instincts and rediscovered intensity to take this one. Prediction: Frank Mir
