Vast, wild, and even treacherous—that's the Mountain West.

In terms of geography, not much has changed in the old West since the early days of settlers and cowboys, and that's exactly why you should plan your next American road trip through this unyielding and breathtaking landscape.

In between epic climbs at Vedauwoo Climbing Area (a particular favorite of travel expert Tia Troy with the Wyoming Office of Tourism) and Westworld–esque campgrounds at Canyonlands National Park in Moab (we've got Emily Moench from Visit Utah to thank for that tip), you'll take pit stops in small towns with some excellent eats (chili lovers, get excited) and frontier-friendly entertainment.
