Based on its number of bike paths, specialty food stores, and outdoor rec areas, your hometown could be helping you shed pounds—or setting you up to fail.

Need to get rid of your gut? Your hometown could help—if it’s stocked with specialty food stores, bike paths, and a mountainous backdrop, that is. Otherwise, your city’s collection of fast food joints or lack of fitness centers could spell trouble for your waistline. The real estate website Trulia recently evaluated America’s 100 largest metropolitan areas on five pieces of criteria they deemed critical for weight loss success: 

> Access to healthy food (more supermarkets and full-service restaurants than convenience stores and fast food joints)
> Number of people who walk or bike to work instead of driving
> Number of gyms in the area
> Number of sporting goods stores
> Number of weight loss centers such as Weight Watchers

People living in these areas really do have no excuses when it comes to weight loss—opportunity is everywhere. And a special congrats to San Francisco. A ridiculous number of residents are walking and biking to work—even with all those hills.

Turns out, it's easy to lose your money and hard to lose your love handles in Las Vegas. The city’s high density of fast food establishments, low activity levels, and small number of fitness centers pose a challenge to anyone trying to take off excess weight. You’re better off leaving Sin City on your vacation bucket list.
