Revive your mind — and body — at Maui's most remote luxury hotel

The problem with most getaway vacations is you don't always truly get away.

That's not the case with Hawaii's legendary Hotel Hana on Maui's lush eastern shore. The world-class hotel is nestled between the majestic Hana Bay and miles of unspoiled tropical rain forest — and far away from the droves of tourists you'll find on other parts of the island.

To get to this oasis of tranquility, you must travel along the famed Hana Highway, which runs along the coastline and is home to dozens of spectacular waterfalls, bamboo forests, and Eden-like botanical gardens. Your best bet is to rent a convertible and experience the beauty of this highway the way it was meant to be experienced — with the wind in your hair and the sun against your face.

Once you arrive at the Hotel Hana, check out the spa's nurturing massages, facials, and body treatments. You'll also discover steam rooms, an aquatic therapy pool, and a lava rock whirlpool.

Hana's simplistic, yet luxurious, Sea Ranch cottages offer spectacular views of the ocean and the contemplative solitude that attract guests from all over the world. Inside you'll find high ceilings, a plush feather bed, a giant-size soaking tub, local artwork, and bamboo hardwood floors.

Expect soothing rainfall bouncing off your bungalow at night (you are in a rainforest, after all), followed by rays of sunlight dancing off the walls of your cottage in the morning.

Spend your days enjoying horseback riding along the Hana coast, playing tennis, taking in complimentary daily yoga classes, or relaxing at nearby Hamoa Beach — possibly one of the most beautiful crescent beaches in the entire world.

Cap your evenings with a cocktail and a dip in the hotel's renowned Wellness Pool, which features majestic views of the Pacific Ocean — and reflect on the many miles between you and the rat race of the "real world."
