MAZDA3 FIVE-DOOR

From the flowing lines of the redesigned exterior and increased fuel efficiency (22 mpg city, 29 highway) to smart details like electronic stability control, this wagon exudes versatility and untouchable value. With a 2.5-liter engine providing 167 horsepower, it's also as fun to drive as it is practical, and buying one won't require a bailout.

SUBARU IMPREZA WRX SPORT WAGON

Two years ago, this rally-car-inspired ride received a major design overhaul. The latest iteration goes even further. The turbocharged 2.5-liter engine now boasts 265 horsepower and a stiffer suspension that gives the WRX even tighter handling. Throw in 17-inch gray alloy rims and a mean sport-style grille, and you've got a sick sport wagon with room in the back for a mountain of gear.

CADILLAC CTS SPORT WAGON

The largest and most powerful of our trio, the CTS runs a direct-injection fuel system. That means more power, better gas mileage (estimated 26 mpg highway), and fewer nasty emissions. This Caddy's 3.6-liter V6 engine cranks out 304 horsepower, and has classic wagon styling with all the luxury you'd expect, plus an incredible 25 cubic feet of cargo room behind the rear seats.
