Hold the mayo
Celebrate Memorial Day with a barbecue-but make sure you avoid at least a few of the most fattening foods that come with the festivities. That means passing on the potato salad, macaroni salad, chips, and hot dogs-all of which do nothing for your beach body.
Calories saved if you eat smarter this Memorial Day: 819.

Start Paddling
Gather some friends and head down to the river for a weekend rafting trip. An hour of fighting beginner Class 2 rapids sheds more than 400 calories.
Calories burned if you whitewater raft one weekend this month: 3,266.
-
Hit the Highway
It's road-trip season, which means plenty of stops at the gas station. Drop a few extra calories by pumping your own gas (unless you're in New Jersey or Oregon) and walking inside to pay for your petrol. Just be sure to steer clear of the tempting salty and sweet snacks they purposely stash near the cash register-a single candy bar and soda will set you (and your belly) back more than 500 calories.
Calories saved if you choose not to refuel with gut-busting snacks this month: 6,276.
-
Get to Stepping
Now that the weather is warm, jump off the treadmill and start hoofing it outside for a change of scenery and terrain. Running on the road or ground burns significantly more calories than a soft treadmill belt.
Calories burned if you run outdoors for an hour twice a week this month: 6,528.
-
Trim Up
Even though it sucks, mowing a lawn with a push mower can slice an average of 490 calories from your waistline.
Calories burned if you mow the grass yourself three times this month: 1,470.
