Erik, it's 350 calories per *half* hour, so you'd only need two 2 1/2 hr sessions per week

How about some ways to start out for a new gym joiner wanting to lose at least30 pounds in 3 months?
-- Linda
To Cassidy, Breat feeding is a sure-fire way to get those pounds off but if you want to start exercising, take your little buddy on a stroller walk 20 per day and you'll notice the pounds drop. Take it easy though. Also, most gyms have affordable child care facilities so you might want to head to the gym for an hour and talk to a personal trainer about getting on a regular weight training routine.

How do you stay on track with your work out when you get sick? Since October I've gotten bronchitu, ear infections, throat infections, and sinus infections multiple times. Not to mention the horrible stomach flu. I'm dying to work out during these times, but don't dare because I also have asthma. I have been working out with weights and running on the treadmill 3 times a week since Septermber. This is the first time in my life i've actually worked out and I'm getting so frustrated. Does anyone have any advice. I have been eating fruits and veggies to try to get a better immune system. I'm getting a little discouraged!
-- Christine Skrzypek
To Christine- last fall I had just started losing weight and then became very sick in October as well. I had sinus infections and mono all the way into January. I didnt want to overexert myself and become even sicker so i stuck to reducing food portions, eating healthier, drinking less alcohol and always opting for walking instead of driving or taking the elevator when i could. I didn't lose weight as quickly but i did continue to lose weight and it kept my body ready for when i was healthy again to start back up with exercising. Then once i added exercise back into the equation my weight really started dropping. Don't get discouraged!
-- Erin
Christine stick with the working out and good nutritional eating. Your body has to go through building stages. Excersize breaks down your body leaving you at a greater risk to become ill. As long as you are continuing to eat right sleep right and excersize your body and immune system will have no option but to adapt and become stronger. Make sure your getting a multivitamin in your daily regement also you wouldnt believe the impact that little pill can have on your bodies immune system........ "Take the beating and drive on it will only make you stronger, and when the next beating comes along you might not even realise its a beating"

I gained a lot of weight in my two pregnancies ( one right after another) and was able to shed all but the last 12 lbs. I workout 6 and sometimes 7 days a week, and I eat healthy most of the time. I just can't seem to lose that last little bit and my youngest baby is now 2. I'm ready to have my body back. Help, please!

any ideas to drop the pounds before my wedding?? i have just shy of a year and i go for my first fitting in feb.

Try walking the stairs four days a week instead of the lift.
-- SANDEEEP SEN
Hey Karen, I come from an indian background and am always using spices and herbs to ass some flavor to my food, try paprika, cumin, oregano, basil and tumeric powder they are really great ways to add some flavour without adding alot of calories. Just sprinkle thses spices (all together if you like) on some chicken breast and it really spices it up, also instead of eating a salad with just vinegar or lemon, try a tsp of balsamic vinegar and a tsp of rasperry jam on your salad its a great alternative!
-- Anika Verma
Suzie,
Don't try to crash diet. Slow and steady does win the race. Opt to lose one or two pounds a week. Weigh yourself every morning to stay on track. Drink a full glass of water before each meal. Chew each bite at least 20 times. Listen to slow music while you eat. If you use large plates switch to salad plates. Also try to leave a few bites. Do not eat everything on your plate. Cut out soda and juice. Drink fat free milk, tea with sugar substitue and lots of water. Broth based soups are good quick meals. Little changes make a big difference. It may take a while but once your body adjusts to the new routine the pounds will melt off. You can lose more than 50 pounds before your wedding. If you want to lose more, don't get discouraged. Use your wedding dress to accentuate your positives and hide the parts that haven't quite reached that goal. Just remember that if you lose the weight slowly and safely the better your chances for continued success. Its ok to cheat(a little). While watching tv get up during the commercial breaks and do jumping jacks or lunges. It all adds up. Besides, your fiance fell in love with you. If your losing weight to be healthier that's great. If your just losing it for the wedding talk to your fiance. You may be losing weight for the wrong reason. Which could lead to disaster. Ask yourself this? If I wasn't going to be a bride would I want to lose weight or do I want to lose weight to be perfect on my wedding day? Will I still continue my good habits after the wedding? If you answer no to those questions maybe you are fine just as you are. Do it for the right reasons!!!

i am pear shaped, and have been doing spinning classses, for a long time, and i am wondering if spinning builds butt mucsels, and should i be doing i different exercise for my shape. I did noteice, that my weight is coming back on. Does counting calories help? I have tried weight watchers, but always feel hungry.
Thank you,
-- Joyce
Joyce,
Try eating five smaller balanced meals instead of three big ones during the day... you'll feel less hungry and less prone to snacking... cut on carbs, cheese, processed foods, fat such as butter or margarine... substitute fatty chips for quaker rice cakes, just one or two or even celery, drink lots of water... sometimes people think that their body is telling them they are hungry while in fact they are in need of hydration. counting calories does help but it shouldn't become an obsession... if you do feel hungry during the day, try 100 calorie snacks... you should never feel guilty about food... this is a big problem in our society and causes a great many to develop eating disorders. exercise wise, pilates in addition to cardio vascular activity is a great way to lose weight without building bulk... pilates (i suggest windsor pilates) will make your body leaner, like a ballerina's body. they have great core, butt and thigh exercises that work really well... i too used to have problems with my gut, hip and thigh area but with few simple tricks i've lost a great deal of weight. working out three days a week and changing your eating habits will do a great deal of good

I have been dieting for a month. I average 1500 calories a day and have been doing the treadmill for a half hour a day also. I am female at 200 lbs and 47 years old. I have been writing down everything and only have lost 6 pounds in the first week. I am so ready to give up. I know that I am eating alot less than ever before, so what gives? I quit smoking four years ago and my weight does not go down
-- Swoozie
man i have an office job and dont really have time to work out what are some was i can loss weight and fast...
-- david
Swoozie, if you weigh 200lbs and are running the treadmill for 30 minutes a day, then 1500 calories a day is not NEARLY enough. Your body has gone into a state where it is desperately trying to hold onto your weight, because it thinks you are starving (which you are). As counter-productive as it may seem, I'd suggest adding more calories to your diet, perhaps bringing your daily total up to approx 2000. At first you may notice a slight weight gain as your body will still be responding to the starvation threat, but as your body adjusts to the higher amount of calories you will notice weight loss again. You may also want to discuss your goals and strategies with a personal trainer or health professional.
