Mesa Fresca

Recipe by Bobby Flay

| Print Page | Email to Friend

2 oz tequila
2 oz freshly squeezed grapefruit juice
1/2 oz freshly squeezed lime juice
Pinch salt
Splash lemon-lime soda (Diet Sprite or Diet 7UP is ideal)

To make: Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well.

Drink Tips:

» The higher the quality of the tequila, the better your drink. At the very least, select a brand that's labeled "100% agave." For a truly top-shelf cocktail, look for an anejo or reposado tequila, both of which are aged before bottling.

» Limes should be room temp or warmer-not chilled. It makes it easier to squeeze the juice from the fruit. To get even more juice in your glass, microwave the lime on high for 20 seconds, cool, and then roll on a solid surface using the palm of your hand until you feel the flesh softening. Serve your fresca in a tall, narrow glass. The extra height helps keep the soda fresh and bubbling longer than shorter, wider glasses, which allow carbonation to escape quickly.

» According to a new Israeli study published by the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, the antioxidants in grapefruit juice-particularly red grapefruit juice-can significantly lower cholesterol levels, helping in the fight against heart disease.

What's the difference between high fructose corn syrup and regular corn syrup? All of the low-fat yogurts have HFCS and that's bad for you, right?
-- Jeff

Looks a bit perculier to me

high fructose refers to the sugar being modified to have more of the simple sugar fructose (naturally found in fruits). fructose happens to be the sweetest sugar, so the purpose is to make the corn syrup sweeter so you can use less, thus saving the manufacturers money. fructose is thought to make you fatter than other sugars. oh yeah, fruit doesn't have that much fructose in total, compared to sweetened drink and foods.

Bro,
I started taking this protein dink called Cyto Sport Muscle Milk. It
claims that the "fat" used in its product is lean fat which is naturally
used for energy and not stored. They call it LEANLIPIDS. It's also
pretty high in calories...640 per serving.
What do you think? I think it too many calories
per serving...and I usually take it before and after I work out. My
goal is to not loose weight, but to loose an inch or 2 (waste). Would
you recommend just sticking to Whey or do you think it would matter if I
drink this stuff?

-- Miguel Boria

Look for fat free yogurts sweetended with Splenda - they are evrywhere now. That way the only sugar you get is from the dairy and fruit itself.
-- Nick

I found this stuff VP2. 100 calories, and 23g of whey protein isolate per serving. its pretty good acutally. a little light on the flavor but pretty good. dps has it for 22 bucks
