An apple a day may in fact keep the doctor away. The cardiologist, to be specific. One apple contains approximately 4 grams of fiber, and some of that fiber comes in the form of pectin, a compound that has been linked to lowering levels of “bad” cholesterol. In fact, eating an apple every day for four weeks lowered LDL cholesterol levels among participants in an Ohio State University study.
