Independence Day: Atlanta Braves and Miami Marlins Set For Historic Fort Bragg MLB Game

In celebration of the Fourth of July holiday, the National League rivals will honor U.S. troops by playing the first-ever game on an active military base.

The Atlanta Braves and Miami Marlins will face off nearly 20 times during the 2016 season, but on Sunday night when the teams play, it won’t be just another baseball game.

When players like Freddie Freeman and Giancarlo Stanton take the field in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, it will mark the first time ever that a regular season matchup will be held between professional teams on an active armed forces base. The game is being held as part of the Independence Day weekend celebration at the base.

"Major League Baseball's boundless gratitude to our military has led us to a unique event that will benefit the men and women of Fort Bragg and their families for many years," MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said in March.

A new ballpark was constructed at the United States Army installation to host the game—the sparkling new major league-quality ballpark with 12,500 seats will later be converted into a  permanent softball facility for the population at Fort Bragg.

For anyone looking to get into the game—beware: tickets are not allowed to be resold, meaning you should watch out for any scammers trying to sell seats for the historic matchup.

The game will be televised on ESPN at 8 p.m. ET on Sunday.
