When a player is dealt ahead of the MLB trading deadline, it usually takes some time for him to get acclimated to his new surroundings.

For A.J. Ramos, the newest reliever in the New York Mets bullpen, one place he won’t have trouble finding his way around is the gym.

Ramos might be the most shredded relief pitcher in baseball, regularly deadlifting over 500lbs and staying in shape by doing box jumps, sled pushes, dumbbell workouts, landmines, goblet squats, power cleans (like muscular Penn State RB Saquon Barkley), and medicine ball exercises.

The Mets acquired Ramos from the division-rival Miami Marlins for a pair of low-level prospects, giving the team a former All-Star to stabilize its relief pitching. With closer Jeurys Familia out with an injury, their best reliever Addison Reed traded to the Boston Red Sox, and the bullpen having blown 13 saves through the first 102 games of the season, the Mets may hand the ball to Ramos quite a bit in the ninth inning.

The former Texas Tech star set a career high in 2016 with 40 saves while making his first All-Star team, and he could be the key to the Mets solidifying their bullpen.

One thing’s for sure: Ramos can hold his own in the weight room. He might find a kindred spirit in starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard, who will be appearing on Game of Thrones in Season 7 and told Men's Fitness he loves to get in his squats.
