Would You Wear a Bacon-Inspired Baseball Cap?

A Minor-League Baseball team is using bacon to attract fans.

Let’s face it: Americans love bacon. We’re almost obsessed with it, and one minor-league baseball team is proving that all over again.

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, released its new bacon-themed merchandise on Feb. 24 and the team says it's sold almost 3,300 bacon hats and 1,500 bacon-strip scratch-and-sniff T-shirts since the launch.

The IronPigs “Smell the Change” baseball caps include a bacon strip logo across the front and a fresh “Pigs” jersey underlined with a bacon strip as well as bacon-style piping down both legs of the pants.

“People clearly love bacon and baseball, and we just hit a nerve by putting it together on our official gear,” team president and general manager Kurt Landes told ESPN’s Darren Rovell. “We had orders from all 50 states in the first 36 hours.”

The IronPigs plan to wear the themed gear for Saturday games once the season starts next month. Landes also said the team will continue the swine-theme throughout the season, selling bacon-flavored cotton candy at the ballpark and offering free bacon crumbles on all concession items.
