Rory McIlroy Smashes a Golf Ball 436 Yards at the Scottish Open

Rory Mcilroy drives golf ball 436 feet

Two-time major champion Rory McIlory shot eight birdies in a seven-under 64 at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open on Thursday. While the 64 broke the Royal Aberdeen record, it's his drive on the thirteenth hole that has the sports world buzzing.

The 25-year-old Irishman drove the ball a whopping 436 yards (1,308 feet) into the group ahead, his par-4 personal best. McIlory, widely regarded as golf's young phenom, is used to starting off professional tournaments strong, hitting 63 at the Dubai Desert Classic, the Honda Classic, and the Memorial, but he didn't win any of those meets. Next week, McIlory competes in the Open Championship in England, which Phil Mickelson won last year.
