10 Fittest U.S. Soccer Players

Unlike stronger international teams, the U.S. National Men’s Soccer Team can’t rely solely on skill or stand-out individual players to score a spot at the World Cup 2014. Our real weapon? Fitness. Here’s the top 10 guys that can play with intensity down

Jermaine Jones, Midfielder

Club Team: Schalke 04 (Germany)

6’ 0’’ | 170 lbs

Jermaine Jones, 30, now lives in Illinois, but was born in Frankfurt, Germany to a German mother and American father. After his young career where he played for Germany in U-20 World Cup qualifiers, and for the German senior team in a 2008 slew of friendlies, he was able to switch associations to the U.S. becoming eligible to play in 2009. He’s a hard tackler, has a well placed through ball, and isn’t afraid to use field space and time to create scoring opportunities. All these qualities make him both a defensive and offensive staple of the U.S. midfield—and with continued development, his transfer to American will perhaps result in an overall roster loss for Germany.
