It's not surprising why the fashion police focuses on the women at a red carpet event—their looks tend to be more colorful and adventurous. Still, there were some men who stood out from the parade of penguin suits at last night's 66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. A look through some award-worthy style.
Alright, alright! The Academy Award-winning actor brought a much-needed pop of color to the proceedings in a blue Dolce & Gabbana tux. And although he lost out on a chance to bookend his Oscar with a Best Drama Actor Emmy—he was bested by Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston—at least he got to go home with a hot Brazilian supermodel (wife Camila Alves).
The White Collar star lost more than 35 pounds to play a man dying of AIDS in HBO’s The Normal Heart, earning him an Emmy nod for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie. Here he is looking dapper in a tailored Tom Ford tux.
OK, so The Avengers' Mark Ruffalo may have lost his category (he was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Movie/Miniseries for HBO's The Normal Heart), but he looked every bit the winner. Hulk looked Incredible. And he'll have more chances to rock the red carpet seeing that his upcoming wrestling pic Foxcatcher (co-starring Channing Tatum and an unrecognizable Steve Carell) is gaining some serious Oscar buzz.
Getting dolled up for a red carpet can be a bitch, but Jesse Pinkman, er, Aaron Paul makes it look easy (in Prada). Later that night, Aaron would win his third Supporting Actor Emmy for the final season of Breaking Bad.
The star of The Wire and Luther (for which he was nominated) is the epitome of calm, cool, and collected in a Gucci tuxedo, shirt, and tie. Next up: Idris plays a psychopathic home-invader in No Good Deed.
A night before the Emmys, The Voice judge had performed with his band Maroon 5 at the MTV Video Music Awards and tweeted: “Only thing missing from the VMA’s this year? #pants.” Well, Adam showed up to TV’s biggest night in pants…and in case you were wondering, they’re Prada.
Not only did the Ray Donovan star hit the carpet without his best accessory (the beautiful and talented Naomi Watts, who also happens to be his partner), Liev appears to have left something else back home in New York: a razor, as evidenced by his (literal) five o’clock shadow. Still, he cleaned up quite nicely otherwise, donning a crisp white shirt, black suit and matching black tie.
"Jon Hamm never won an Emmy...but who cares because he's still Jon freaking Hamm," sang Weird Al to the tune of the Mad Men theme song. Hard to argue there. Here the former Men's Fitness cover guy is dressed to the nines in Tom Ford.
The Late Night host (wearing Valentino) was solid as Emmy emcee. Some of his funnier bits: “If you’re an actor on Game of Thrones I bet you wait for next week’s script the way most people wait for biopsy results. 'I think you better sit down: Your character has been invited to a wedding.'"...“This will also be the final season for shows like Glee, Two and a Half Men, and Sons of Anarchy, as well as almost every new show to premiere this fall."...“NBC decided to hold the Emmys a month earlier, in August to avoid conflicting with Sunday Night Football. Which is keeping with the actors’ tradition of running away from jocks.”
