Good For: Guys looking to lose a few pounds
Wide-leg styles conceal flaws, hiding love handles and thicker waists. Look for a looser cut with a just few extra inches of room in the legs to follow your shape without hugging your frame too closely, says Ben Taverniti, designer and creative director for Hudson Jeans. The key is to avoid going too baggy—it’ll make you look even larger.
Good For: Lean guys
Your best bet is a skinnier cut that fits lower on the hips (low rise), says Steve Romero, men’s denim designer for <a href="http://www.7forallmankind.com"_blank">7 For All Mankind. If you go too loose, it will leave you looking like you’re swimming in your jeans and will draw more attention to skinny legs. Look for back pockets with flaps or extra material as well, as this will add bulk and shape to your rear— which the ladies appreciate.
Good For: Tall Guys
Extra fabric at the bottom of the jean balances your shape, creating a straighter, streamlined look. “For a guy with long legs, I recommend something that is not too skinny and not too loose, as those types of fits might make it more difficult to figure out a whole look that goes with the jeans,” Romero says. just don’t go too crazy—you want a very slight flare, not bell-bottoms.
Good For: Athletic guys
Athletic and muscular bodies look best in jeans with a wider leg, since looser cuts show off the shape of a toned body. going with a skinnier pair of jeans will make your muscle appear overly bulky. “Look for a fit that is slightly roomy but not too baggy, so you’re comfortable but your look stays clean,” Romero says.
Good For: Short guys
“Straight cuts are ideal for shorter guys since they can be hemmed without losing the shape of the pant", Taverniti says. Pay attention to the rise of the jean, though, since it’s the one thing that can’t be altered. Low-rise styles generally work better the shorter you are. And whatever you do, don’t cuff your jeans or let fabric bunch up around your ankles - you'll just look shorter.
