Mimicking your boss' mode of dress isn't necessarily brownnosing–it may actually be a speedy way to climb the ladder.
In a new workplace survey, 68% of managers admitted giving brownie points to underlings with similar taste in clothing. “The standard’s usually set by the boss,” says study spokesman Ed Watson, “then the rest of the workplace follows.”
For cues, scrutinize your boss’ “uniform.” If he’s more of a jeans than a suit guy, get out your best Levi’s. If he’s a she, re-create her look the guy’s way: a blazer if wears those, button-ups if she’s more conservative.
