Dry hair can be a royal pain in the ass to manage but it’s a totally solvable problem.
The root cause—literally—is a dry scalp, which is a result of your scalp losing moisture to things like a sudden change in temperature (from moist weather to dry air, wind, or sun), excess heat from hair tools (like a blow dryer), overuse of alcohol-based grooming products, a poor diet, and more. It frizzes easily, lacks smoothness and shine, and just feels, well, dried out. It can also cause an itchy, irritation on your scalp, which can then turn skin cells into small white flakes (not to be confused with dandruff flakes).
What you need is a moisture-rich and silky smooth oil-infused shampoo that you scrub in to your scalp to hydrate and stimulate the hair follicles. Using any old shampoo you see first at the supermarket increases your risk of developing split ends (where the hair splits into two pieces), making hair less durable and vulnerable to breakage. (And while these strong hair gels for men will get the styling job done for the day, they'll do nothing to hydrate a dry scalp.)
But first, some other tips since no one bottle of shampoo is a miracle potion:
*Make sure to include lots of healthy fats (like salmon and avocado), vitamins, and minerals in your daily diet—this will help strengthen your strands. *Keep your water pressure on the lighter side when hitting the shower to avoid breakage. *Don't wash your hair everyday, because interestingly enough, it strips your hair of natural oils, thus drying it out faster (three times a week—at most—is golden). *Consider leaving in a restoration mask (that's made with moisture and oil) for five to seven minutes after washing it. And avoid cheap shampoos that don't deliver the same benefits.
