Your hairline isn’t where it used to be, but that doesn’t have to be a bad thing. There is versatility yet, whether you’ve lost some of your hair, all of it, or none of it. Here are 10 dapper guys—from bald to blessed—whose styles you might wear as well. This, gentlemen, is how you age gracefully.
May we all age as well as Mr. Hamm. Here, he’s letting his medium-length style loose, a departure from the Draper-esque prison that locked his hairs into place for so many years. Hamm’s hair is pretty straight, his hairline recessed at the temples, but this look—slightly longer on top, but still an inch or two on the sides—keeps him as classy as ever.
You’ve outgrown the need to rock the latest hair trend (and how lucky for you). If you have got a strong hairline and density like Renner, then opt for a more laidback version of the high and tight crew cut. It’s buzzed on the sides, but not faded like a teen heartthrob. Have your barber texturize the top so that it doesn’t weigh itself down.
Usher has plenty of hair, but he keeps it buzzed super short. This won’t be as effective if your hair is thinning, but aside from frequent cleanups (we’re guessing weekly, in his case), it’s relatively maintenance-free. Just be sure to put some SPF up there before going outside.
Ruffalo’s hair has significantly thinned. However, by growing out his curls up top, he creates the illusion of density. See how he lets the ones in front fall over his forehead? It hides the recessed hairline. He’s a master illusionist!
Bardem, like Ruffalo, lets his hair fall over his recessed hairline, creating an illusion of fullness. His hair is straighter and thinner than Ruffalo’s (as in, each hair strand is thinner), which gives him more flexibility to grow out the sides. (It’s grown out a couple inches in this case.)
Johnson's hair is patchy, so he shaves it entirely. There's a lot to consider when you finally come to terms with your sparse pelt; but if you can rock a confident smile like The Rock, you won’t miss a beat.
Wayans’ hairline is recessed, but the hair that remains is fairly dense. Like Ruffalo, he uses that to his advantage by letting the top grow long. However, his sides are buzzed short, right up into the recession. This creates an illusion that the entire look is intentional, and not just a product of aging.
Daniel Dae Kim
Kim isn’t shy for hair, either, but his disconnected high and tight is a sharp pairing for his long, wavy hair up top. Notice how the back of his hair isn’t shorn as close as the sides; it’s a dimensional look—slightly edgier than the others in this roundup, but Kim has the swagger to pull it off.
Brad Pitt won the genetic lottery. That, or he actually is Benjamin Buttom. His hairline and density are as strong as ever, and as a result, Pitt has been able to try every hairstyle under the sun. This one is our favorites, though: Paired with a fresh shave, the length gives him a professorial charm.
Alejandro González Iñárritu
Speaking of professorial… Iñárritu’s hairline may have slipped back a few notches, but his grown out wavy hair still looks sharp. The key here is the natural, flowy texture; it hits the sweet spot for this particular length. Any guy with overly straight or curly hair will have a harder time turning heads.
