Old School Activity Workouts

Work these activities that come with a built-in workout into your routine.
Remember the simpler times when everyday life—milking the cows, tilling the field, and walking the 13 miles to town—was a workout? We don't either. But we're taking you back to the old days, when everyday work and chores came with a built-in workout.

We present nine old school activities (and the number of calories they burn) that get people in shape while they got shit done. Take a look back to when lack of technology meant no one “worked out” because their energy was already put to good use just getting through the day.

A Reference Point for calories burned during regular workouts for a 150-lb. person:
Running: 17 cal./min. at a 7-minute mile pace
Vigorous weightlifting: 7 per minute
General bicycling: 10 per minute
