BlogsTake the Red Pill
I want to share something that my good friend Orlando Lopez wrote recently. Orlando works in IT in the MF office, and has had a huge influence on how many of us eat and where we get our information. Sometimes I think he should have his own column in the magazine. This is a great reminder that we should all question things a little more, and not take anything that affects our health on faith.
In the movie The Matrix, Morpheus offers Neo two pills, a blue one and a red one. The blue pill takes him back to the world he knows, while the red pill opens up his mind to reality. He took the red pill because he wants to know the truth and see "how far the rabbit hole goes".
Years ago when my father told me that my mother had been diagnosed with cancer, paralyzing waves of emotion crashed over me. Within a few moments I began to tremble, tears welled up in my eyes, and a lump formed in my throat. How could this happen? My mom was going to die. When you hear of someone close to you having cancer, you automatically assume that there is no other outcome. I felt totally powerless. Then, reaching for hope, I thought maybe it would be one of those cancers you hear about where they recover completely after performing some operation. Maybe she won't die. Not knowing all the facts, we had to have hope. I went with her to the oncologist hoping to hear something positive. The doctor concluded that because the cancer was of an aggressive nature, it would come back again no matter what was done.
It was, as you can imagine, a depressing time for my family and me. I prayed to God as one does in times of crisis, hoping for a miracle. One night while being driven home by a friend, Derrick Dottin, I told him about my mom. He said that I should listen to this guy on the radio who spoke about things like alternative medicine. I didn't really know what alternative medicine was but I was open to anything or anyone for the even the tiniest bit of help that could offer us a glimmer of hope. The guy on the radio was Gary Null. The very next day I tuned in to listen and my life was forever changed. I had taken the red pill. I would listen to his radio broadcast almost every day for years until he left WBAI. He spoke about how the environment, how we lived our lives, and what we consumed contributed to disease. How pharmaceutical companies influenced our government and the medical establishment. How a healthy vegetarian diet is far superior to a meat and dairy-based diet. And how alternative therapies like intravenous vitamin C drips, chelation and ozone could be used to cure diseases. He had doctors experienced with these therapies on his program along with their patients discussing how these therapies cured them of cancer, HIV, diabetes, arthritis, MS, Parkinsons, etc. This really upset me. Why was this not mainstream? Why wasn't this information on the news? People were being cured of cancer and nobody, it seemed, was aware of these simple approaches to healing. Why were government officials donned in flak jackets and armed with automatic weapons breaking down the doors of doctors healing people and arresting them?
was becoming more aware of things. The blinders were coming off. But more importantly for my mother and family there was hope! I contacted one of the doctors I heard on his show, Dr. Christopher Calapai, and made an appointment for my mom. He put my mother on IV vitamin C therapy, which boosted her immune system. You see, when the immune system is compromised, it opens the door for free radicals to do the body harm. Strengthening her immune system must have helped because nearly 20 years later my mother, thank God, is cancer free.
Although I don't listen to Gary like I used to, he left an indelible impression on me. How could he not? Most everything I heard on his program was earthshaking and 100% accurate. How do I know? I did a lot of research to back up his statements, checked his sources and have personally had successful experiences with various therapies. I would not have found these things had I not taken the red pill.
My journey down the rabbit hole has brought me a book called "Diet For A New America", by John Robbins. Robbins is the son of one of the founders of Baskin Robbins ice cream. John was being groomed by his father to take over the Baskin Robbins empire, but he declined. Why would he turn down the opportunity to live the great American Dream on a scale very few people can ever hope to attain? Take the red pill. If you care about the future of this planet, your health, and the health of your children, family or friends, I seriously urge each and every one of you to read this book.
Another character in The Matrix, Cypher, makes a different choice. He doesn't care what causes his experiences. He only cares that they are satisfying. He is happy to have his memory erased and to return to the Matrix believing that he is someone rich and powerful. As he dines in a luxurious virtual restaurant with Agent Smith he says: "You know, I know that this steak doesn't exist. I know when I put it in my mouth, the Matrix is telling my brain that it is juicy and delicious. After nine years, do you know what I've realised? Ignorance is bliss."
