8 Alternative Ways to Get Muddy

Take a break from the typical adventure race and get even dirtier with some of America's coolest mud-soaked obstacle courses.
Take more than your sneakers off-road with the REI Muddy Buddy Bike & Mud Run, in which teams of two switch between running and biking over the 6-7 mile course. Or, if biking isn’t your thing, you can opt for the straight-up run, which keeps teams together as they race 3 to 4.5 miles, depending on the event location. The race—in all of its muddy obstacle glory—culminates in a 50-foot mud pit directly in front of the finish line. Plus, you can feel good running this one: proceeds go to the Prostate Cancer Foundation’s Athletes for a Cure program.
