Stress affects every guy, whether it’s from the never-ending work emails or that fight with your girlfriend about who did the laundry last. Though you can’t escape stress, exercise may help you better handle it even long after your sweat session is over.
A new study from the University of Maryland School of Public Health show that sweat sessions enable you to manage stressful situations not only immediately after you exercise, but in day-to-day life. Researchers at the University of Maryland School of Public Health had healthy students complete a 30-minute rest session three times and a moderate bout of exercise three times. Both groups viewed 90 emotionally stimulating photos (think: appetizing food or families) and neutral photos (think: furniture or plates) right after the third 30-minute period and again 20 minutes later.
Both sets of students were more Zen initially, but only the exercisers experienced less anxiety after an extended period of time. The findings imply that exercise has the power to change your emotional state to help you endure daily stress with more composure and positivity.
Slash stress in your own life by incorporating some cardio and weights. It’s recommended that healthy adults get about 150 minutes per week of aerobic exercise and at least two lifting sessions.
