Finally Get in Shape With These Tips From Obi Obadike

The celeb trainer and fitness entrepreneur talks training, nutrition, and the mindset it takes to achieve fitness goals.

If you’re even remotely interested in fitness, you’ve seen Obi Obadike. You can’t miss him. He starred in one of the most famous Gatorade commercials ever (“the winning formula,” which ran from 2005 to 2007), he’s modeled for every fitness magazine and website under the sun, and he recently starred on Spike TV’s Sweat Inc., a reality show where aspiring fitness entrepreneurs hawk their inventions and services.

Obadike spoke to Men’s Fitness about how the mind must be transformed before the body, and gave tips to make 2016 the year you finally get ripped.

Men’s Fitness: What are the biggest obstacles that people face when trying to transform their body?

Obi Obadike: Before you start transforming your body, you have to believe that you can do it. The biggest obstacle people face is a lack of discipline.

MF: What are your favorite weighted exercises?

Obi Obadike: Flat dumbbell chest presses, barbell curls, T-bar rows, triceps pushdowns, leg presses, and hack squats.

MF: What are the most effective bodyweight exercises?

Obi Obadike: Pushups, dips, body-weight squats, pullups, wall-sits, lunges, and planks. All of these you can do anywhere, whether it be at your home, hotel, or the park. Just doing these three times per week will get you results.

MF: How important is nutrition?

Obi Obadike: Nutrition is 70% to 80% of the battle in losing weight. The reason why most people are either overweight or obese is their poor eating habits.

MF: What is your diet like?

Obi Obadike: My diet consists of chicken, turkey, lean steak, green veggies, sweet potatoes, oatmeal, brown rice, baked potatoes, etc. I eat pretty healthy for the most part, but I have moments where I indulge, too. I think it is important to have those moments so you don’t make yourself crazy by eating the same things every single day.
