The Men's Fitness Ultimate Athlete Rules and Regulations

What:                 Men’s Fitness Ultimate Athlete Presented by Gillette

When:                September 27 & 28

Time:                  10:00 AM on Sept 27th & 28th

Where:               Las Vegas Convention Center ~ North Halls

Who:                  Open to Men 18 years and older

Entry Fee:          $50 USD

The Olympia Weekend and Men’s Fitness Magazine are proud to announce the 2013 Men’s Fitness Magazine’s Ultimate Athlete presented by Gillette.  The event will be held at the Olympia Expo at the Las Vegas Convention Center North Hall on Friday, September 27 and Saturday, September 28. 

The 1st Place Overall Winner will receive a trophy, a check for $5000.

The 2nd Place Overall Winner will receive a trophy.

The 3rd Place Overall Winner will receive a trophy.

Competitors will accumulate points while participating in each of the individual events. All events must be completed to count towards the overall and individual scoring.

You must be 18 years or older to enter.  No experience necessary.

SCORING CRITERIA

Basketball Challenge

Each competitor will have 1 minute to sink up to 15 basketballs from the 3 marked three point line areas. 15 basketballs total.

Each ball that goes through the basketball hoop will count for 1 point except the last ball in each area will count for 2 points.

Baseball – Pitching

Each competitor will have 1 minute to throw 5 baseballs into the strike zone. Baseballs must be considered a strike by throwing into the strike zone target opening to count toward mph points.

Each strike pitched will be clocked for speed by a radar gun and the points will be as followed:

60-65 mph =         1 point

66-70 mph =         2 points

71-75 mph =         3 points

76-80 mph =         4 points

81-85 mph =         5 points

86-90 mph =         6 points

91-95 mph =         7 points

96-100 mph =       8 points

101+ mph =        10 points

Extreme Fit Challenge

Competitors will be timed to complete the Extreme Fit Course. The faster the time the more points will be awarded.

Course will feature the following exercises:

12-Foot Rope Wall

The athlete must complete this obstacle to move on.


12-Foot Rope Wall

The athlete must hoist up a 90-pound tire 16 feet in the air twice, and must execute a controlled descent to the ground both times.


Vertical Monkey Bars

The athlete must complete this obstacle to move on to the next event.


Cargo Net Climb

The athlete must complete this obstacle to move on to the next event.


Log Carry

The athlete must carry a 50-pound log over the shoulder and step over blocks that are 2.5 - 3 feet high and cross the finish line.



 

Scoring:

Up to 2 minutes =                            30 points

2 min 1 sec – 2min 30 sec =          28 points

2min 31 sec – 3 min =                    26 points

3 min 1 sec – 3 min 30 sec =         24 points

3 min 31 sec – 4 min =                   22 points

4 min 1 sec – 4 min 30 sec =         20 points

4 min 31 sec – 5 min =                   19 points

5 min 1 sec – 5 min 30 sec =         18 points

5 min 31 sec – 6 minutes =            17 points

6 min 1 sec – 6 min 30 sec =         16 points

6 min 31sec – 7 min=                     15 points

7 min 1 sec – 7min 30 sec =          14 points

7 min 31 sec – 8 min =                   13 points

8 min 1 sec – 8 min 30 sec =         12 points

8 min 31 sec – 9 min =                   10 points

9 min 1 sec – 9 min 30 sec =           9 points

9 min 31 sec – 10 min =                   8 points

10 min 1 sec – 10 min 30 sec =       7 points

10 min 31 sec – 11 min =                 6 points

11 min 1 sec – 11 min 30 sec =       5 points

11 min 31 sec – 12 min =                 4 points

12 min 1 sec – 12 min 30 sec =       3 points

12 min 31 sec – 13 min =                 2 points

13 min 1 sec plus =                          0 points

Football Combine

This is a timed event that will include bonus points for accuracy at the football throw station. Each competitor will be required to complete each section of the combine. Time will stop once the last football is thrown.

3 Cone Sprint (Time Starts)

 

The athlete must run to the middle cone and touch the line with their hand, they would then run back to the first cone and touch the line with their hand, they would then run to the 3rd cone and touch the line with their hand, then run to the middle cone again and touch the line with their hand, then they run over to the Weighted Sled Pull station.

Weighted Sled Pull – 50lbs

The sled will have a rope tied to it and the athlete must pull the sled towards himself and pass the designated finish line.

Football Throw

Closest Target  = 2 points

Middle Target  =          4 points

Longest Target = 6 points

-There will be 3 targets at different distances. Each target is given a certain amount of points with the closest target having the least amount of points and the farthest having the most points.

-Time will stop after the 5th football thrown.

-Athlete must throw overhand. No under hand throwing allowed.

Points as follows:

 

1min 1 sec – 1 min 30 sec =                   10 points

1 min 31 sec – 2 min =                            9 points

2 min 1 sec – 2 min 30 sec =                  8 points

2 min 31 sec – 3 min =                            6 points

3 min 1 sec– 3 min 30 sec =                   4 points

3 min 31 sec – 4 min =                           2 points

4 min 1 sec – 4 min 30 sec =                  1 point

4 min 31 sec plus =                                 0 points

Contestants need the following

  • Athletic Apparel & Shoes Required
  • Signed Waivers
  • Signed Application
  • $50 entry fee

*Note: 

Competitors  must  Check- In on Thursday September 26th and go to the registration area located inside the Las Vegas Convention Center – North Hall lobby between 10am – 8pm & show picture identification to receive their information packet, Expo entry wristband, and contestant number that they will wear while competing.

All contestants must report to the Ultimate Athlete Race Area (located in North Hall) by 9:45 AM on Friday, September 27 for orientation & race time.

The competitor will have to run the course on Friday and then rerun the course on Saturday to try and better their scores. The higher of the two scores will be used for their overall score.

All competitors are required to be in the Ultimate Athlete Area by 2pm on Saturday September 28 for awards. Failure to appear by the stated times, will result in being removed from the competition, and forfeit of entry fee. 

We also encourage you to bring a change of shirt/shorts, and towel for after you compete. If your athletic apparel does not pass inspection, you will not be allowed in the event area. 

Any competitor, who cheats, does not comply with the correct technique required to perform the courses or does not follow the directions of the referee, will be disqualified from competition.

Referees have the final say on all matters relating to technique, scoring and timing.
