Weekend One-Up: 10-Minute Core Challenge

This 10-minute challenge will work your core with deadlifts, box jumps, and situps.

Are you a workout warrior looking for a challenge? You’ve come to the right place. It’s time to test your abilities——and your mettle!

Each week our fitness expert, CrossFit competitor, and owner of New York City’s Reebok CrossFit 5th Ave., Nathan Forster, lays out a quick workout that measures your level of strength, speed, power, endurance, and/or skill. Think you can “one-up” our guy? Get ready to throw down, and let’s see what you’ve got…

This week’s challenge:
Set a timer for 10 minutes. Complete as many rounds as possible of three deadlifts at 155 pounds, six box jumps at 30 inches, and 12 situps.

The benefits:
The deadlift is a multijoint compound exercise that strengthens the legs, hips, and lower back. This exercise also greatly improves core strength and endurance. 
The box jump is an explosive-power exercise for the legs and hips, but also improves core strength and stability. 
The situp is a traditional, ground-based exercise that specifically targets the core, hip flexors, and lower back.

Athletes participating in a variety of traditional sports including baseball, basketball, football, soccer, tennis, volleyball, and golf will reap the benefits of this core- and lower-body-strengthening circuit.
