5-Minute Kitchen: Blend a Green Smoothie

Tired of coffee and eggs in the AM? In this edition of 5-Minute Kitchen, Juice Generation founder Eric Helms walks you through how to blend a breakfast smoothie that will wake you up just as well as an energy drink or cup of joe.

If you’re just getting your bearings around the blender, the idea of slipping spinach or kale into a smoothie might sketch you out. But we promise, if you do it right, your healthy drink won’t taste like dirt.

What do we mean by right? Well, we trust Eric Helms recipe. He’s the founder of NYC’s Juice Generation and when we stepped behind the juice bar to sample his super green smoothie, we were impressed that some really odd-sounding ingredients could produce such a delicious drink. What went into our cup:

  • Spinach
  • Kale
  • Hemp protein
  • Banana
  • Almond milk
  • Ice
  • Chia seeds
  • Blue-green algae
