The Predator has another target to hunt.
Or will she make Predator into prey?
Either way, we know this much: Australian actress Yvonne Strahovski has joined the already stacked cast of Shane Black’s new Predator film, just as principal photography has begun, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Strahovski, who is no stranger to action after roles on Chuck, 24: Live Another Day, and Dexter, will play the ex-wife of Boyd Holbrook’s military commander and the mother to Jacob Tremblay’s character.
The actress joins Holbrook, Tremblay, Keegan-Michael Key, Trevante Rhodes, and Olivia Munn in the cast, along with Game of Thrones star Alfie Allen, who just was brought onto the movie as well. Thomas Jane (The Punisher) is also rumored to be part of the cast, but his involvement has been kept under wraps so far.
The Predator is shaping up to be one of the more refreshing takes on a past franchise that’s been rehashed, with varying success, over the last decade. The cast is an eclectic mix of actors with backgrounds in drama, action, and comedy. And as a writer and director, Black’s connection to the franchise—he was an actor on the original 1987 Predator alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger—gives him a different perspective than most people who get behind the camera.
The plot of the movie sounds pretty wild too: “The story plunks the alien hunter—whom audiences have seen fight in jungles, concrete jungles, frozen wastelands and alien planets—in the harsh environment of … suburbia,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Predator, directed by Black and starring Munn, Holbrook, Brown, Key, Rhodes, Tremblay, and now Allen and Strahovski, is slated to hit theaters February 9, 2018.
