Luke Cage is ready to introduce himself to the world—by smashing his enemies through walls.
Marvel released the first trailer for the Netflix series Luke Cage at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, starring Mike Colter as the titular superhero. The teaser shows how Cage plans to fight crime in the New York City-set series: with brute force, amazing strength, and a few comedic quips.
Cage has some awesome abilities—after a sabotaged experiment, he gains superhuman strength, unbreakable skin, and accelerated healing—making him a force to be reckoned with in his home neighborhood of Harlem. The series comes after Cage made his first appearance during season one of Jessica Jones and will follow the hero as he “confronts his past and fights a battle for the heart of his city.”
In the teaser, ODB's "Shimmy Shimmy Ya" plays as Cage demonstrates just how strong he is—he rips open a car with ease, breaks through metal bars, wraps up one of his enemies in a car door, and—oh yeah—he also takes a barrage of bullets without breaking a sweat.
Luke Cage is set to debut on Netflix on September 30.
Marvel also showed the first footage from Iron Fist, which will debut in 2017 and stars Finn Jones (Game of Thrones) as Danny Rand, who “returns to New York City, after being missing for years, to fight corruption with a proficiency in kung-fu and the ability to call upon the power of the Iron Fist.”
The Defenders team-up series also got its first teaser—hinting how Cage, Jessica Jones, Daredevil, and Iron Fist will be brought together to fight bad guys in New York City:
